New session of Skill Training of Rural Youth kicks off

Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema kicked off its 6-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on Vermi-composting on September 13.

Organised in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, the programme aims at imparting skill-based training to rural youth in the age group of 18-40 years on Agri and allied based vocational areas to promote employment. SAMETI Director informed in a press release.

Chair of the programme, Tiajungla Longchar, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI welcomed the participants and gave a brief introduction about the programme. In her keynote address, Dr Watimongla Jamir, Director SAMETI and Principal IETC, spoke about the importance of manure in farming and how this programne would enable the trainees to start producing manure by converting their kitchen and surrounding wastes into vermin-compost. Stating that the programme would help them in generating not only employment and income but also be beneficial for the environment, the Director encouraged the participants to follow up the training programme with tangible results. 

The programme which alson saw the attendance of officials from Department of Agriculture, closed with vote of thanks by Ato V Chishi, Accountant SAMETI.
